Rookie Rugby 2013
The 2nd through 5th grade students have been playing a non-contact version of rugby called Rookie Rugby. Rookie Rugby is a fast paced game in which the students score as many “try’s” as possible. A try is the rugby version of a touchdown and each one is worth 5 points. During the unit on Rookie Rugby, the students learn about sportsmanship and being a good teammate while exercising.
The Illini Bluffs Physical Education Department is excited to announce the addition of Rookie Rugby to our physical education program. Rookie Rugby is the US brand of flag rugby. Rookie Rugby is a safe, non-contact, easy to play game for both boys and girls of all ages! It is played in schools, parks and recreation leagues, and community organizations across the country. The rules are simple, the game is easy to learn, and minimal equipment is required.
Recently, the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students had a special guest visit Illini Bluffs to introduce the game of Rookie Rugby. This non-contact version of Rugby was well received by the students and will become a part of our curriculum next year.
